A group of people who follow Hinduism have vented their fury towards Palmi (Reggio Calabria, Italy) based Baffo Craft Brewery and urged them to apologize and withdraw their Ganesh Craft Beer; calling it highly inappropriate.
The beer bottle features an image of Lord Ganesh holding a beer mug in one hand and a bottle in another.
Lord Ganesha in Hindu religion is regarded as God of obstacles and worshiped by everyone.
Ganesh is described in the translated version of the Baffo website as moderately strong with a soft body double malt amber-colored craft beer in English IPA style, which is fabulous with meat and excellent with cold cuts (Alcohol 5.8%, IBU 56, EBC 21).
The protest is spearheaded by Rajan Zed, president of Universal Society of Hinduism.
In a statement, he said that linking a Hindu deity with an alcoholic beverage was very disrespectful and that inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or symbols for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees.
